Exams & Consultations
A dental examination will identify the health of your
teeth and gums and any problem areas within your mouth.
Should there be a problem area, Dr Agapitos will discuss
the treatment options that are available to you and
together you can decide which one is most suitable for
you. The cost of all treatment is fully explained and
an estimate is also issued.
During the examination Dr Agapitos will:
- Feel under your jaw and check your face and neck
to ensure that they are healthy.
- Look at places inside and around your mouth, which
you may find hard to see. For example, your tongue,
the roof of your mouth and the back of your throat.
- Check that your teeth and gums are healthy and identify
whether there are any signs of decay, damage or gum
disease.
- Identify how healthy your teeth and gums are compared
to your last visit and explain any futher treatment
that you may need.
Dr Agapitos may also feel that it is necessary to take
x-rays to gain more information about your teeth. X-rays
will expose any decay that may not have been discovered
during the visual exam, as well as reveal the extent of
any bone loss. Dental x-rays use very high speed film,
so the radiation exposure is very small. Once the examination
is complete Dr Agapitos will explain the dental condition
of your mouth, any treatment required and a cost estimate.
It is important to schedule a dental examination at
least every six months, so that your dentist can help
you to maintain a healthy mouth and also check for any
early signs of dental problems, such as decay or gum
disease.

Dental Cleaning
Plaque is a sticky accumulation of bacteria on the
teeth and gums and should be removed daily with brushing
and flossing. If plaque is allowed to build up, tartar
forms which you unable to remove, and as a result you
will require a scale and polish. This commonly appears
behind the lower anterior teeth. You should have your
teeth professional cleaned at least every six months
to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums and make
it easier for you to keep them clean at home.

Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease affects the gums and structures
that support your teeth. The first warning sign is gingivitis
when the rim of the gums next to teeth becomes red and
swollen and bleeds easily when touched. If untreated
it may progress and become periodontitis, which can
mean damage to gum and bone is so severe that teeth
become loose and may need to be removed. Periodonitis
can be treated if caught in early stages via tooth scaling
and root planing.
Preventative Resin
Seal (fissure sealing)
Preventative Resin Seals are an effective and inexpensive
way of preventing decay on the tops of your teeth. A
large amount of decay occurs in cracks and grooves in
teeth far too small for you to clean. To prevent decay
a plastic resin is placed over the chewing surfaces
mainly of the back teeth, where it flows into and fills
up these deep cracks. This simple procedure only takes
a few minutes and no injection or drilling is required.
We guarantee PRCs for life – if they come out or break,
we will replace them at no charge.

Teeth Whitening
Having a white smile often means having more confidence
and feeling better about yourself. Tooth whitening is
one of the most popular and simplest procedures available
in dentistry today. Achieve a whiter, more beautiful
smile. You can have your teeth whitened in our office
in only one hour or at home for 30 minutes a day for
10 to 12 days.

Veneers
Changing the appearance of your smile is now
easier with porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic tooth
coloured material, which are bonded to the front of
your teeth to change their shape, size, alignment, or
colour. This procedure requires little or no anaesthesia
and can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance
of the front teeth. Porcelain veneers look completely
natural and can be used to correct the following: • Gaps between teeth
• Broken or chipped teeth
• Unsightly, stained or washed-out fillings
• Permanently stained or discoloured teeth that can't
be bleached
• Crooked teeth

Bonding
Bonding is a technique that improves the appearance
of your teeth by the direct application of tooth-coloured
composite resin. Bonding is typically used for repairing
chipped or cracked teeth, hiding stained areas on the
tooth's surfaces or closing the gaps in between teeth.
Bonding can also be used to change the size or shape
of your teeth, creating a smile that appears more symmetrical,
space free and aesthetically pleasing. Unlike crowns
or porcelain veneers, composite bonding removes little,
if any, of the original tooth. Although bonding may
not be as long lasting as porcelain veneers or crowns,
it can last for a number of years with proper care.

Tooth Coloured Fillings
Traditionally metal fillings have been used to fill
cavities in teeth. However these fillings are not aesthetically
pleasing, and in some situations these fillings weaken
teeth due to the large amount of the original tooth
that has to be removed in order to place them. With
advances in modern dentistry we have another alternative,
tooth coloured fillings, which are as strong, safe and
give a more natural appearance.

Crowns
When a tooth is cracked, decayed or damaged, a crown
may need to be fitted to protect and preserve the remaining
natural tooth. A crown is a definitive covering that
fits over the original tooth and address aesthetic needs,
restores tooth function and enhances the overall health
of your mouth . Crowns can be made of tooth coloured
porcelain or gold.

Bridges
A bridge is a device used to fill the space where a
tooth has fallen out or been removed. A typical bridge
consists of a pontic (a filler tooth) that is attached
to two surrounding abutments (crowns). Without the use
of a bridge, spaces in the mouth from missing teeth
can cause multiple teeth to shift, lead to occlusion
(biting) and/or jaw problems and spur periodontal disease.

Root Canals
A root canal is a dental procedure to remove
an infected nerve from inside the canal in the root
of your tooth. The treatment is usually performed in
two to three appointments and local anaesthetic is used
preventing the patient from experiencing any discomfort.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used to replace missing teeth.
Consisting of replacement teeth, plastic gum area and
either metal clasps or precision attachments, partials
can make eating and speaking easier for people who are
missing some of their teeth. Partials are removable,
which makes them easier to clean and care for.
Children's Dentistry
Dental care is as important for children as
it is for adults. Children should visit the dentist
when they are around two years old. It's best to bring
them in for a dental examination so that we can familiarise
them with the surroundings and make dental visits enjoyable.
Extractions
Dr Agapitos can provide dental extractions, although
in some cases removal of a tooth or teeth may be difficult.
In this situation an appointment will be organised for
you to see the appropriate specialist.
Implant Dentistry
For individuals who wish to replace missing teeth, dental
implants may be an effective long-term solution. Implants
provide greater structural support and last longer than
either bridges or dentures. Implants serve as the artificial
root to which new teeth are bonded. |
